Bollywood is India's most-watched dream! But not everyone comes out of this fantasy with a smile and a swagger. For here is one place on earth where, in the absence of 'Luck By Chance', you get completely trapped in a mire of glam and sham.
We present to you some Bollywood heroines of the 2000s, who went on 'idle' mode, despite having had a thunderous debut.
CELINA JAITLEY
This former Miss India has tried and failed, several times, to become a star. Celina made her debut with Feroz Khan's 'Janasheen' (2003), after which she was a part of several multi-starrers. However, she failed to register an impact in Bollywood.
AMEESHA PATEL
After a sensational debut in 'Kaho Na Pyaar Hai' (2000) opposite Hrithik Roshan, Ameesha was declared the next big thing. A string of flops ensued, and she disappeared from the Bollywood scene. Her last film, 'Shortcut Romeo', was also a box-office turkey.
MAHIMA CHAUDHARY
Even with films such as 'Pardes' (1997), 'Dhadkan' (2000) and 'Lajja' (2001) to her credit, Mahima Chaudhary has been unable to make a name for herself. She has done films with almost all the big names in the industry, and yet she has no major claim to fame.
KOENA MITRA
Koena made her debut as an item girl in RGV's 'Road' (2002), after which she was seen in the Fardeen Khan starrer 'Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena' (2005). She is yet to make a mark, even after a 12-year stint in the industry.
KIM SHARMA
Kim Sharma played the conventional Bollywood heroine in her debut film 'Mohabbatein' (2000). Post 'Mohabbatein', her filmography features some mediocre movies that sank without a trace. The only other time she hit the headlines was for being the arm candy of playboy cricketer Yuvraj Singh.
SHAMITA SHETTY
She made her debut with Aditya Chopra's Big B-SRK starrer 'Mohabbatein'. After a string of B-grade flicks and an item number in 'Saathiya', Shamita tried to revive her career with 'Zeher' (2005) and 'Cash' (2007). The two films bit the dust, and the lil sis of Shilpa Shetty went into hiding. The latest news we have on Shetty Jr is that she will star in all the films to produced by Shilpa Shetty's S2 Global Productions Private Limited.
GEETA BASRA
She made her debut with 'Dil Diya Hai' (2006) and went on to do 'The Train' (2007) opposite Emraan Hashmi. Her career appears to have come to a standstill. She is now known as cricketer Harbhajan Singh's supposed love interest.
PERIZAAD ZORABIAN
Perizaad was known for her offbeat projects. She made her debut with Nagesh Kukunoor's 'Bollywood Calling' (2001) and went on to star in 'Joggers' Park' (2003) and 'Morning Raga' (2004). Despite her tremendous success, she is a rare sighting on screen. Her last project was 'Y.M.I. Yeh Mera India (2008)'.
PREETI JHANGIANI
Preeti is another victim of the 'Mohabbatein' jinx. B-grade flicks and slapstick fares fill her Bollywood resume. She was last seen in the 2007 release titled 'Sajna Ve Sajna'.
TANUSHREE DUTTA
Tanushree made her debut opposite Emraan 'Serial Kisser' Hashmi in 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne' (2005). She followed it up with some inane B-flicks and item numbers, and ended up in no man's land.
AMRITA ARORA
She made her debut with Fardeen Khan in 'Kitne Door Kitne Paas' (2002), but became a known face only with the item number "Dilli Ki Sardi". Amrita, till date, does not have a hit to her credit.
NAMRATA SHIRODKAR
Namrata has several critically acclaimed films to her credit, 'Vaastav' (1999), 'Pukar' (2000), 'Astitva' (2000) and 'Tehzeeb' (2003) to name a few.
But since her marriage to Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu, Namrata's career has taken a backseat.
GAYATRI JOSHI
Gayatri made her debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in 'Swades' (2004). She made her presence felt in the movie, despite being paired with one of the biggest stars of Bollywood. The latest news on Gayatri is that she is happy playing home-maker, and has bid farewell to movies!
POOJA BATRA
Her ticket to Bollywood was Priyadarshan's 'Virasat' (1997) opposite Anil Kapoor. Other popular films include 'Nayak' (2001), 'Jodi No.1' (2001) and her last release 'Taj Mahal - An Eternal Love Story' (2005).
SNEHA ULLAL
Sneha Ullal made her debut opposite Salman Khan in 'Lucky - No Time For Love' (2005). She was labelled the "Aishwarya Rai Clone". When offers dried up, she packed her bags and went South.
